CONTRACTOR PARKING PERMITS---NO NOT?
Parking is hard enough in the South End. Recently, contractors put up no parking signs that they do not have proper authorization for. Cars are then ticketed and or towed when they should not be.
A common scenario is that a contractor gets a permit for a dumpster only (one parking space) and then they illegally put up "No Standing or Parking" signs over three or more parking spaces so that they will have a place to park their personal vehicles. The City charges for each space permitted, but these contractors are too cheap to pay for extra spaces, and try to cheat by putting signs over a wider area then they have permission for.
You can always ask to see a copy of their permit; they must have it on the site.
Now on the City of Boston web site, DPW has a listing of all permits by street address so you can lookup exactly what they have permission to do.
The link is: http://www.cityofboston.gov/streetoccupancy/
If there is a violation you can fill out a complaint form on the web site, call DPW or the Transportation Department, or (most simply) call the Mayor's 24 hour hot line at 617-635-4500.
